Academic Qualifications 1963 - Master's degree (English Literature) from the Punjab University, Lahore. 1966 - Successfully passed the competitive examination to join the Foreign Service of Pakistan. Took the exam in the following subjects: English Language and Literature, International Relations, British History and American History. 1966 - Joined the Pakistan Foreign Service 1967 - One year's intensive academic training at the Civil Service Academy, Lahore, in preparatiobn for the diplomatic career. The subjects studied included: Public Administration; Development Economics (including Economic Planning and Internatinal Economics); International Law; International Relations; International Organizations; Diplomatic Theory, Practice and Protocol; Foreign Policies; French Language. 1967-68 Attached with various Legal and Political Divisions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad for on the job training as a Foreign Service Officer. 1980 - Attended a summer course on US Foreign Policy at the Johns Hopkins University, Washington D.C.
